My research focuses on engineering valve tissue for the repair or replacement of the stenotic pulmonary valve in pediatric patients with Tetralogy of Fallot. Our goal is to produce an autologous valve-like tissue that can grow, repair, and remodel by culturing and conditioning mesenchymal stromal cells from the umbilical cord (human umbilical cord perivascular cells) on biodegradable electrospun polyurethane scaffolds.
