Research Summary:

Aortic aneurysm and dissection are consequences of abnormal microstructural changes within aortic wall tissue, resulting in altered biomechanical function of the vessel. However, the specific changes in the extracellular matrix (ECM) that result in the dysregulated mechanics of the aorta are not well elucidated. My project aims to identify the specific ECM changes that result in aortic failure, as seen in aneurysm and dissection. Better understanding of these structure-function relationships would have implications for both screening and targeted therapeutics.
